Visit to Computer and Communications Museum NUIG

Members of the RTA advanced computer class visited the Computer and Communications Museum at NUIG in February. Brendan Smith our tutor gave us an informative and inspired talk tracing communications through the ages from the hieroglyphics to the Internet.

Ireland was once to the fore in developing modern technology and it is now more essential than ever that we would encourage the present generation to study science and engineering with a view to creating more jobs.

The primary and Secondary Schools' Outreach Programmes are doing invaluable work in educating teachers and students to the latest web tools across a range of disciplines. We need this technical expertise to transform Ireland into a competitive knowledge economy.
Hopefully the authorities at NUIG will recognise the importance of this the first Computer and Communications Museum in Ireland and will give it a permanent home so that all children will get an opportunity to visit the museum.

The museum is well worth a visit. It is situated in the IDA Business Park opposite the Westwood Hotel at the DERI institute. Admission is free. Be sure to visit the DERI Cafe.
