Writer's Workshop

The Writer’s Group got of to a great start when 15 members turned up for the beginning of a 5week course that Geraldine Mills, poet and acclaimed author facilitated.

Geraldine, a native of Galway is the proud recipient of the Katherine Kavanagh Fellowship, The Millennium Winner of the Hennessy/ Tribune Emerging Fiction Award, overall winner of the New Irish Writer award for her story, ’The Lick of the Lizard’ and The Inaugural Winner of RTE Guide/Penguin short story Competition 2010.
She has read and facilitated workshops in the USA. Her short story collection has been taught at the University Connecticut.
As well as being an accomplished writer Geraldine is a warm-hearted encouraging person and I know members of RTA will enjoy working with her.

Geraldine's course was a tremendous success. Members engaged in the process produced amazing pieces of prose and poetry. They will meet again in the autumn but in the meantime they will continue to write.

RTAI  Bursary

Comhgáirdeas o chroí le Maureen Gallagher

who received one of RTAI’s  Bursary awards at a reception in Dublin in February. Maureen undertook a beginner’s course in Spanish at the Spanish Institute in Galway and followed it up with an intensive course at The International Language School in Valencia where her daughter and granddaughter live. She plans to continue her language tuition at the Valencia school in the future thus enabling her to speak Spanish fluently. We wish her well in her endeavours.
