Kiltartan to day is by no means poor. It is
truly a very special place, a top class museum, a magnificent building with an
excellent warm-hearted informative guide, Rena Mc Allen. “It is a former
schoolhouse built at the behest of Sir William Gregory of Coole Park. It
contains rare memorabilia, first editions, artifacts from Coole House and a
charming early 20th century classroom.

Every landscape has the power to inspire, but
some have special magic. Kiltartan is one such place. It inspired W. B. Yeats
and Lady Gregory who has immortalized Kiltartan in her books and plays by
writing dialect known as “ Kiltartanese.”

Situated at Kiltartan Cross on the N18 Galway
–Limerick road it is well worth a visit. It is open from June to September. Put
a visit to Kiltartan on your ‘must-do-list’ for 2014.
