Denis Desmond the national Secretary addressed the meeting making the following points:
1. Widows and widowers who are entitled to a state pension no longer have to sign on.
2. In the Dec. Budget all previously held ‘Free’ entitlements have been maintained.
3. Under 700euro gross per week entitles you to a medical card – all incomes must be taken into account.
4. An E.G.M. on the rules and Constitution of R.T.A.I. will be held in March 2012.
5. Specific advice on health or other insurances is not given as these are personal commercial decisions for each individual but with the massive hike in VHI cover from Jan.2012 members might like to investigate “ Teachers Plan” which equates approx. to Plan B. Before changing make sure it covers your needs in Health Insurance.
6. It was proposed:
(a) To donate 300euro to Western Alzimers and
(b) That travel expenses at a rate of 46.25c per km be paid to the secretary when attending to R.T.A business.
Before 44 members adjourned to the dining room to enjoy the traditional Christmas three-course lunch the newly formed Musical Group encouraged all present to join them in a medley of popular songs. Well done to all concerned. This is an important social occasion for our members and one we all enjoy.
