Following Mass Denis Desmond who went to enormous trouble to be with us in atrocious weather conditions addressed the meeting.
1. Teachers are entitled to Widows and Widowers pensions with their Teacher’s pension.
2. He outlined the implications for pensioners in the Governments 4 year plan. We would incur a reduction of up to 5%.
3. He outlined the many changes that have taken place on the conditions of retirement. Early retirement schemes are gone, the three strands which helped many get early retirement are gone, members forced to retire on ill health are assessed for eligibility by Med Marc making it more difficult for retirees. In fact the good days are gone.
The Runai and Cathaoirleach were proposed and seconded to attend an emergency meeting on the 4 Year Plan and Dec. 7th Budget. On the 8th Dec.
