Alliance Meeting of Retired Public Servants

Alliance Meeting of Retired Public Servants

There was a very poor turn out of Galway Retired Primary Teachers at this important regional meeting held in the Clayton Hotel. Remember you will have to fight if you want the restoration of your pension. The message from the meeting is to lobby your TDs before the next election. If provisions are not made by the next Budget then you will have to wait a very long time. It is now or never. Mobilise now.

Points of Information

Alliance of Retired Public Servants      Taxation without representation is tyranny.

  • The Alliance is in existence for three years
  • Represents 20 organisations and over 100.000 Retired Public Servants
  • Recognised by Minister Howlin as the Representative body for R. P.S.
  • Average Civil Service pension is 20,000 euro.
  • Average HSE pension is 14,000euro.
  • Average Public Service pension is 22,000 euro.
  • After the 1995 changes to pension contributions public service pensions were sustainable (Trident Report). The Pension Levy is just a TAX on public  servants.

Demands
  • We want to be at the table when our affairs are being decided.
  • No consultation at Croke Park 1&2 and at Haddington Road.
  • Pensions are property. Pensions Ombudsman agrees.
  • Government may be in breach of the Constitution where ‘property rights’ are concerned.
  • The Government used FEMPI to confiscate our pensions.
  • FEMPI falls when the EMERGENCY is over. The EMERGENCY IS OVER.
  • We want our property back ASAP.
  • Many of our members do not have the time to wait for gradual restoration. Our older members can’t wait. Forget ‘Death with Dignity’. How about Life with Dignity?
  • USC as applied to Retired Public Service Pensioners is unjust compared to pensioners in the private sector - 12.000 euro  vs  34,000euro – difference in tax is about 1,500 euro.
  • Age Discrimination: Public Service income reduction is applied to Retired Public Servants at 32,000 euro and to serving public servants at 65.000 euro.
  •  The Pension you paid for is the pension you receive less the old age pension of 11,000 euro to 12,000 euro. If you never worked you would have got an Old Age Pension of 11,000 euro..
  • When INJUSTICE becomes law, RESISTANCE becomes a DUTY .
