In twenty eleven one September morn,
The Galway R.T.A. Bridge Club was born,
A fledgling club, an enthusiastic crew,
With no rudder to guide us what were we to do,
Carmel, our teacher- mentor extraordinaire
But a president was needed,
Our course to peruse
From our motley crew, who would we choose?
Our course to peruse
From our motley crew, who would we choose?
John proposed Mary the mantle to don,
An inspirational choice, an astute man is John,
With Mary installed she set out her goal,
And surpassed all the “asks” of a president’s role,
We’ll look at the letters, see how they define,
This leader of ours - as they combine,
P is for personable with a panacea for all,
R is for resourceful, no problem’s too small,
E is for empathy, an ear for everyone,
S is for savvy to get the job done,
I for inclusive, no one’s left out,
D is for diligence and dapper no doubt,
E for encouragement to study our notes,
N is for Nationalism as her “reading” denotes,
T is for talent to keep us in line-
It’s for the trendy in style and design!
It’s for the trendy in style and design!
A is for testimonial of her due accolades
While we have no trumps, Mary has it in spades!
We moved out of the classroom and donned a knapsack,
For as all teachers know - a dull boy was Jack.
We ventured to Aran and you ne’er saw the likes,
Of the antics of some …………..gyrating on bikes!
A trip was arranged to quaint Abbeyglen
The stalwarts who made it know what fun it’s been
We ambled and rambled and then on to dine
We supped and we chatted infused with fine wine.
With the compass points turning and Mary’s wayfaring gene
We’ll be off to more places for us, yet unseen
With a penchant for travel we rightly perceive,
Our president has aces up her fashionable sleeve,
She has us upwardly mobile; that’s plain to see
How many bridge classes have played in the G?
That’s a short resume of what Mary has done
President’s a misnomer- she is the minister for fun!
Thanks for all the hard work - the silentless hours
Our only Honorarium is a card and some flowers!
Le gach dea ghui agus mile buiochas
O na baill go leir.
This ditty was composed by Phil Moran on the occasion of the President's Dinner.
