Changes to Branch A.G.M.
Following the changes made to the rules and
Constitution at the R.T.A.I. EGM in
March 2012 it was decided that:
1.
The Branch AGM for 2013 would
be held in December.
2.
Accounts for 2013 should be
submitted to the auditors by September 30th 2013
3.
Accounts for the period
March 30th 2012 – September 30th 2012 be submitted at the December
meeting 2012.
4.
Appoint 6 delegates to
R.T.A.I. Annual Convention, Dublin
in March 2013 at the December meeting
5.
Motions for the RTAI
Convention should be submitted in writing at the December meeting.

The following officers were proposed and
seconded. They are to serve until the AGM December 2013.

Denis Desmond – National Secretary’s Address
Denis made the following points:
1. On retiring members
should transfer from INTO VHI scheme to RTAI VHI scheme.
2. Members should
advise teachers retiring to attend The Retirement Planning Seminar.
3. Salaries,
allowances and conditions for new entrants to the profession have changed.
Pensions are calculated on Career average. As a result of the drastic changes
there is a reduction in 2012 of 700 new applicants applying for Teacher
training which will be a 4 year course.
4. If in doubt contact
Head Office regarding your entitlements re. Pensions, tax etc.
5. Members must
declare Social Welfare pension for tax purposes. Make sure your tax is correct
and once it is correct there shouldn’t be changes after that.
6. Tax Credit
statement is not issued now so you have to look after your tax.
7.
USC (Universal Social Charge)
Everyone pays it earning over 10.000euro a year. The first 10.000 euro is taxed
at 2% , the next 6,000 at 4% and everything after that is at 7%. Members over
70 or those with a medical card never pay more than 4% USC – a significant
reduction. Look for a reduction when you reach 70 as it is a revenue matter.
8.
PSPR (Public Service Pension
Reduction): What is it? It appears on the pay-slip. The Government left the
gross pension as it was and they took the monies from pensioners in the form of
a levy.
9.
Croke Park Agreement: Europe,
private sector and some government members want to breach the agreement. We
will support the INTO in their efforts to protect the agreement.
10.
Insurance: Branch officers, staff, members
and friends who accompany them on
outings, lectures, meetings etc. are covered by RTAI insurance.
11.
Health Insurance: Make sure you have
the cover you need. Read the small print. H.I.A. is a good website as it
compares all the companies involved in Health Insurance.

Before we retired for lunch the newly formed Musical Group under the direction of Mary Tansey gave us a delightful rendition of ‘Whispering Hope’, Suantraí and ‘That’s Amore’. They lifted our spirits. Nár laga Dia sibh.
